Church of St. Peter and St. Paul

Local name: Kościół śś. Piotra i Pawła

The church in Duszniki-Zdrój consists of the original stone baptismal font from 1560, the Baroque main altar from around 1730, the Rococo casing from 1780, and Baroque sculptures and paintings from the 18th and 19th centuries. Especially valuable is the unique pulpit in the shape of large fish with opened mouth. Its structure relates to the biblical story about Jonah who was saved by the huge fish.

The Baroque church was built in the first half of the 18th century but its lineage dates back to the 14th century when the first wooden church with the altar of Saint Katarzyna was constructed in this place. It was replaced with the brick church in the 16th century. In the beginning, it was a Protestant church and it wasn't until 1623 when, after the great fire, was given to Catholics. The preserved tower built between 1631 and 1680, and the reconstruction of the building which fell into ruin 30 years later can be admired to this day. What remained of the former church are lower parts of the tower and chapel.
