Museum of Papermaking

Local name: Muzeum Papiernictwa

Museum in Duszniki-Zdrój is located in a 400-years-old mill, which is the greatest historical value of the city. There are four permanent exhibitions in the museum - historical, artistic, technical collections, and also historical collections of Duszniki -Zdrój. During the tour visitors can see how the paper sheets are made, and try to make a handmade paper with a watermark or with their own handprint.

The historic mill is the only such functioning facility in Poland and one of a few in Europe. Until today, handmade paper is produced there, which formerly, due to its durability, was called immortal. The museum collection, which has been collected since 1968, comprises about 4,000 sheets of historical papers from different periods, domestic and foreign production. Majority of the exhibits are dated from the 17th to 19th centuries. Artistic collections include also 19th century and contemporary school drawings, made with a pencil, ink, and a crayon, as well as drawings by well-known Polish and foreign artists.

The technical aspect of paper manufacture is represented by the exhibition of devices and machines. The whole is complemented by about 500 exhibits related to the history of the city and its inhabitants. In the museum are organized temporary exhibitions and events related to the history of the city and papermaking. Visitors can also buy there paper accessories and handmade paper.
