Since 1986, the dam in Dobczyce has been separating the Raba riverbed creating Lake Dobczyckie. In 2014, the 617 meter long crown of the dam was opened for pedestrians. You can admire the reservoir and the surrounding hills from it.
The decision to build the reservoir in Dobczyce was made in 1970. It serves flood protection purposes and is a source of drinking water for a large part of Krakow (about half of the demand). The lake is excluded from tourist use, except for the crown of the dam.
The dam is an earth and stone structure. It has a length of 617 meters, and in the highest place exceeds 30 meters. A hydroelectric power plant operates below the dam.
