On the site of the former motive power depot in Chabówka, today there is the Open-air Museum of Rolling Stock. It was created in 1993 to show tourists old locomotives, wagons or other vehicles and familiarize visitors with the history of Polish railways. In the museum there are, in total, over 130 historic railway units, some of which are still operating!
Maintenance and Repair Section of the Historic Rolling Stock "Skansen" Chabówka has accumulated so far 51 steam locomotives, 80 wagons (of which 25 still operational passenger wagons and 55 freight wagons) and a lot of other railway equipment. The collection of the open-air museum also includes the oldest in Poland, a steam locomotive - TKb-1479 from 1878.Besides the open-air exhibition in the Open-air Museum of Rolling Stock, there is also a memorial chamber where numerous souvenirs related to the history of railways in Poland are presented. As some steam locomotives are still in use, the management of the Open-air Museum of Rolling Stock has made them available for retro-style journeys. Tourists will be able not only to see the locomotives standing at the station, but also to feel on their own skin what it is like to travel by such an old vehicle.Less
