Farny Weir

Local name: Jaz Farny

The historic hydrotechnical building in the north-eastern part of the Mill Island is a place of passing water from the Młynówka river to Brda.

A two-span dock concrete structure has been equipped with a steel two-part shutter that can be opened and closed by hand or using a mechanical-electrical drive. The difference in levels of both rivers is 3.36 m at this point and that's why after opening a very fast flow of water takes place, creating ideal conditions for mountain kayaking competitions. It is the only such track in the city centre.

The current construction was built in 1899, however it has been rebuilt many times, and in years 2014-2015 it underwent a major renovation. The first weir had been built there in the 14th century, and the water wheel located in it was the drive for the local grain mill. At the present time, the hydroelectric power of the weir is used by a small power plant.
