St. Anna and St. Stephen church

Local name: Kościół Św. Anny i Św. Szczepana

The Gothic, brick church, built in 1386, is the oldest temple in Barczewo. It rises in a very picturesque place, by a small lake called the Prison Pond. Inside the church, you can see valuable monuments, incl. a gothic crucifix, historic paintings from the 18th and 19th centuries, late baroque figures and the altar of St. Stephen from 1800. It hosts regular concerts of the International Festival of Choral Music. Feliks Nowowiejski.

History lovers should also be interested in visiting the church treasury. There are many valuable monuments there, such as a gothic chalice from 1488, the aforementioned crucifix from around 1500, a 15th-century vessel for storing sacred oils, and a baroque reliquary.

The church building has been rebuilt many times, therefore the interior is dominated by the Gothic Revival. It is worth paying attention to the beautiful, neo-Gothic chancel, as well as stellar, net and crystal vaults. A high, seven-storey tower adjoins the temple from the west.
