Oscarsborg Fortress
Local name: Oscarsborg festning
Dating from the mid-nineteenth century, the fortress was named after Oscar I, King of Sweden and Norway. The most important event in its history occurred in 1940, when a Norwegian soldier commanded by Colonel Birger Eriksen led to the sinking of a German cruiser type "Admirał Hipper" called "Blücher".
