From the sixteenth century, the area of Taurogi was an important center for the development of Protestantism, which was supported by the owners of these areas Radziwiłłów. Evangelical churches built mainly in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries can be seen in Szyłele, Pojega and Skaudwil. In Jurbork, a neo-Gothic Catholic church and the tomb of the Piadzewicz family have survived. Jurbork and Skaudwile can also boast original wooden buildings from before World War II.
