Rakiszki is a small town known in Lithuania for the Rokiskio Suris cheese factory. There is also a classicist palace of the Tyzenhaus family, surrounded by a nice park.
Until the 16th century, Rakiszki were in the royal estates, and king Zygmunt August granted them to the Kroszyński princes in recognition of their merits. However, the town experienced its greatest prosperity in the 18th century, when it fell into the hands of the Tyzenhaus family. On their initiative, a hospital, a brewery, a brickyard, a school and a market hall were built here.
The most important memento of the Tyzenhaus rule is the Manor House in Rakiszki. Built in the 18th century, it was rebuilt several times. Currently, it is the seat of the National Science Museum. Within the manor park, in the former manor buildings, there is also the Regional Museum. The owners of the village funded the construction of a neo-Gothic church of St. Matthew, which can now be visited.
