Fort IX is part of the Kaunas Fortress ring, used as a prison in the interwar period, during and after World War II. Also here, in the years 1941-1944, the mass extermination of Jews took place. Currently, there is a museum devoted to the history of Lithuania and the fort itself. A monument to the Jews murdered in this place was also erected nearby.
