Necropolis of Pantalica

The vast area of the necropolis includes a system of natural and artificial caves hollowed out in vertical, limestone rocks and used mainly from the 13th to the 7th century BC. In total there are about 4,000 tombs. The area was divided into 5 main cemeteries. The whole was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
