The Jesuit church San Fedele, dedicated to the first martyr of Como, was built in the 16th century according to the project of Pellegrino Tibaldi. The work of Tibaldi was continued by Martino Bassiego and later by Francesca Maria Ricchini. The church of San Fedele received decorative items and works of art from the nearby church of Santa Maria della Scala, which was demolished in order to create the Teatro alla Scala. In his interiors he can see many paintings such as St. Patrick's Day. Ignatius of 1622, the Transfiguration of the Lord and the Virgin and Child of 1965 by Bernardino Campi.
The impressive, though baroque, baroque structure closely aligned with the Prussian liturgy was supposed to be an example of the Counter-Reformation Church. The church was consecrated in 1579, when most of the work was completed, by St. Charles Borromeo. The building was to serve as a seminar church. The temple was probably built on the site of the earlier church of Santa Maria in Solariolo.
