Lampedusa e Linosa is a commune comprising the three volcanic Pelagie Islands, Lampedusa, Linosa and Lampione. It is situated in the Mediterranean Sea between Sicily and the Tunisian coast and is famous for its fabulous beaches.
The largest of the islands is Lampedusa, with a large port and several towns. Their inhabitants work mainly in the fishing industry, and for several dozen years tourism has been a very important branch of the economy.
Lampedusa offers great conditions for relaxing by the sea. There are beaches covered with golden sand, including Conigli Beach, which is considered the most beautiful in Italy. The coastal waters of Lampedusa and the other Pelagie Islands are perfect for diving, and the attractiveness of going under the water is raised by numerous shipwrecks sunk in this area.
The island has an extensive coastline with numerous coves such as Cala Creca, Cala Galera and Cala Madonna. They hide secluded small beaches and rock grottos where you can swim and dive.
The much smaller Linosa is known for its harsh volcanic landscapes. The local black beaches are known for their volcanic rocks. Among the attractions of Linosa are also trips to extinct volcanic craters, Monte Vulcano, Monte Nero and Monte Rosso. Sea turtles can be watched on the local beaches, especially on Gaia Pozzolana beach.
The smallest of the Lampione Islands is uninhabited and only has a lighthouse. It is a nesting place for many seabirds and is best seen on a boat trip from Lampedusa.
