Local name: Cattedrale di Nostra Signora dell'Orto

The cathedral is a Marian sanctuary and episcopal seat. On November 27, 1904, it was elevated to the rank of minor basilica by Pope Leo XIII. The church was built after a miraculous revelation on the site where the gardens used to be. The main architect was Modenese Luigi Poletti, who was inspired by the appearance of the Roman Pantheon.
