The Sailor's Monument, also called the Great Rudder, was built in 1933 and is considered one of the city's symbols. The 54-meter-high monument is dedicated to sailors who died during both world wars. There is a chapel at the base of the monument, as well as a bell from the battleship "Benedetto Brin", which sank in the port of Brindisi in 1915.
