The city square next to the Palazzo della Ragione, one of the oldest public palaces in Italy. On the other side is Palazzo Nuovo, home to one of the most important historical libraries in Italy - the Angelo Mai Library. The square is in the center of Città Alta, which is the part surrounded by the Venetian walls.
