Tetrapod Trackway

On the island of Valentia off the west coast of Ireland, you can see traces of a tetrapod that lived during the Devonian period, about 380 million years ago. They are located on a cliff on the seashore and are accessed by a path from the radio station visible from Dalek.

Tetrapods are considered the first animals to emerge from water to land. There are only a few places in the world where you can see their traces. Those on the island of Valentia were discovered in 1993 by an archeology student. The place is under state protection, but there is no tourist infrastructure, apart from the information board.

Traces can be found by following the steep and narrow path from the radio station towards the sea coast.
