Cromwell Point Lighthouse
Valentia Lighthouse is located on Cape Cromwell in the northern part of Valentia Island off the coast of Kerry. It is a nineteenth century, relatively low and squat building standing on the edge of a rocky headland. Its panoramic terrace offers views of the surrounding area.
The lighthouse was built in the second half of the 19th century, on the site of a fort from Cromwell's time. It belongs to the most picturesque Irish lighthouses. It is surrounded by coves and small rocky headlands. The building itself is low and round. The lighthouse painted white stands out from the stone buildings remaining from the former fort, which used to be the lighthouse keeper's house. The lighthouse is still in operation, and during the day its terrace is open to tourists.
