Thomond Park is the rugby arena. The Munster Rugby team plays there. It can seat up to 18,000 spectators in the stands. Concerts and other cultural events are also held here.
The stadium was opened in 1934. In the years 2006-2008 it underwent a thorough reconstruction related to its adaptation to new safety requirements. The stadium is famous for its great atmosphere and songs such as "Fields of Athenry" or "Stand up and Fight", which are performed during matches by the hosts' fans. The first one is considered to be the unofficial anthem of the Munster region.
After the renovation, the stadium also hosts concerts and cultural events. Elton John, Rod Stewart, The Cranberries and Bruce Springsteen played here.
