People's Park

People's Park in Limerick, or People's Park, is home to many different species of trees, such as beech, ash, elm, maple, poplar, willow, and ornamental pear with winding paths between them. The park has a 19th century concert stage, two gazebos and a playground for children. We will also see a monument to Thomas S. Rice, a nineteenth-century politician, placed on a several-meter pedestal.

The park also houses the Limerick City Art Gallery with works by Irish artists from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. In addition to permanent exhibitions, there are also temporary exhibitions, including contemporary art exhibitions.

People's Park was created in memory of Richard Russell, an important local businessman. The first steps to establish the park were taken as early as 1835, but the park was officially opened in 1877.
