Glenquin Castle is located near Killeedy in County Limerick. It is a 15th century residential tower. It is currently not in use. It has been preserved in good condition, and you can see the original gothic vaults inside.
The castle was built in 1462 by the O'Hallfinans family. It was used to control the trade route. It was also the seat of the family representative. It was destroyed several times during sieges and wars. It was renovated in 1840 when William Courtenay took it over. Currently it is in the hands of the state.
The lock is not in use. It is in good condition. It is a square tower with narrow windows and surviving arrowslits on the roof. Inside, on the second floor, you can see the original vaults of several rooms.
