Galway City Museum in Ireland, established in the 1970s, and opened in its current location in 2006. The new museum building was built on the initiative of the city council, and the designers were Ciaran O'Connor and Ger Harvey. Inside, visitors will find exhibitions devoted to the history of the city, as well as archeology, art, politics and folklore.
Next to the property is Comerford House, which was previously a museum, built in 1800. This historic building was donated by the Comerford family, and its most famous inhabitant was the artist Clare Sheridan - Irish sculptor, journalist and first cousin of Sir Winston Churchill. Comerford House also houses the historic 16th-century Spanish Arch and remains of the medieval walls.
The Galway City Museum is not only permanent and temporary exhibitions telling about the life of the coastal city from prehistoric times to the present day. We can also find a restaurant serving local specialties and a wide program of cultural events.
