Galway County is one of the most attractive landscapes in Ireland. It covers a fragment of the fragmented northwestern coast with a deep Galway Bay, on which rise out of the sea as flat as the tables of the Isle of Aran. It is a land of mountains, vast heaths, meadows and forests, as well as interesting monuments from different eras.
The county capital is the city of Galway, which is considered the entertainment capital of Ireland. Today, the old town and the former Claddagh artisan quarter are filled with bars and pubs, where the fun lasts until late at night. In summer, the city hosts one of the country's largest art festivals and a bookmaker's festival. In turn, on the bay you can admire the sailing boats and hookers characteristic of this region.
Galway is a great starting point for Arany. These three stone islands, Inishmore, Inishmaan and Inisheer are famous for their harsh landscapes, high cliffs, stone, prehistoric forts and the production of beautiful wool sweaters, gloves and scarves.
Connemar's land in its northwestern part is considered to be the most beautiful part of the county. There are bare mountain ranges, between which swift streams flow and glacial ponds spread. The best known walking trail in this area is the Twelve Bens mountain range, sometimes called the horseshoe. At the foot of the Connemara Mountains you can see the neo-Gothic abbey of Kylemore, which is known for selling local products and preserves.
