Garda Siochana is the name of the Irish police force. In 2017, the Police Museum was opened in the premises of the former treasury at Dublin Castle. It shows the history of the law enforcement institutions in Ireland from the Middle Ages to the present day. At the modern, multimedia exhibitions, you can see uniforms and weapons, documents, photos and equipment of the posts.
Opened in 2017, the museum replaced the previous exhibition at the Record Tower. It could not accommodate a large number of exhibits, and additionally it was outdated and uninteresting for visitors. In the new location, the museum also got a new look. The exhibitions are adapted to the current exhibition requirements. They have multimedia screens, they allow for greater independence of visitors.
The museum is operated by police staff. They are also guides of the facility. The exhibition shows how the tasks and operation of police formations have changed from the times of medieval guards, through the guards from the period of great estates to the modern police.
