Millmount Museum

The Millmount Museum is Drogheda's main cultural institution. It is located in the buildings of the former fort situated on a hill in the city center. Here you can see a variety of exhibitions, telling about the city industry, the most important events in the history of Ireland or the history of the fort itself.

The buildings in which the museum is located, together with the cafes, a library and a theater hall operating here, constitute a municipal cultural center. It is also the oldest preserved fragment of Drogheda's buildings. Thanks to its location on a hill above the River Boyne, it is visible from almost anywhere in the city.

The museum has a very rich collection related to the history and culture of the city and its surroundings. The most important from the historians' point of view is the collection of the only surviving banners of craft guilds in Ireland. The museum also shows the equipment of former factories and workshops operating in the city. The most visited is the exhibition presenting typical Irish cuisine from the 19th century. The guides demonstrate the operation of various tools, including a vacuum cleaner that is over a hundred years old.
