The thermal spring is the largest not only in Iceland, but throughout Europe. Discharges 180 liters of water per second. Its temperature reaches 100 C and is used to heat the municipal swimming pool in Borgarnes and the nearby greenhouse. Near the source, an endemic species of fern grows - the ribbed root.
