Monument of Leonidas
Local name: Μνημείο του Λεωνίδα
Monument to King Leonidas and 300 Spartans standing at the entrance to the Thermopylae Gorge. It was built in 1955. It depicts the figure of a king dressed in a warrior costume, with a shield and a spear. Next to it are personifications of Tajget - the highest peak of the Peloponnese and the Evrotas River. The monument commemorates the heroic defense of the gorge, which was made by the Spartans in 480 BC
