Itanos Archaeological Site

Local name: Αρχαιολογικός Χώρος Ιτάνου

Tradition says that the ancient city was founded during the Trojan War described by Homer, that is around 1200 BC. After many catastrophes and periods of splendor, the city fell into its final ruin in the 15th century as a result of a series of pirate attacks. The open archaeological site has been a place of scientific research since 1900.
