Archaeological site of Ancient Messene

A large archaeological site covering the remains of the ancient city of Messina. It is situated in terraces in a valley falling from the mountains. Archaeological work is ongoing here. Visitors can admire, among others, the theater, the stand, the ruins of several temples and a huge sports stadium with a gymnasium. In the surrounding mountains there are also ruins of the sanctuary of Zeus and several smaller temples, but access to them is only possible by walking trails.
