Old Fortress of Corfu

Built in the 16th century, the fortress is one of the most important fortifications in the Mediterranean. It stands on an island connected to the mainland by a nineteenth century bridge. Almost all of its buildings have survived. Within the bastions and walls are, among others, the chapel of convicts and the church of Saint George. Cultural institutions are located in the former barracks.
