The complex of 20 large and over a dozen small water reservoirs, swamps, peat bogs and wet forests covers an area of over 220 hectares. The biological wealth and beauty of the area have long attracted tourists, scientists and artists. The most famous representation of Osterseen in art is the series of paintings by Georg Schrimpf.
