Zugspitze cable car
Local name: Seilbahn Zugspitze
A modern cable car connects the shores of Lake Eibsee with the Zugspitze mountain. Its route is nearly 4,500 m long, and it usually takes about 7 minutes to cover it. The journey takes place in spacious gondolas, each of which can accommodate up to 120 passengers. From the mountain station, there is a panoramic view of more than 400 alpine peaks, located in 4 countries, Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Italy.
The railway was built in 2015-2017. It replaced the older cog railway, operating here since the beginning of the 1960s. At the time of its creation, the present railway had three world records: the greatest difference in height on one section, amounting to 1945 m, the longest free span, measuring 3213 m, and the highest steel supporting pillar, 127 m.
