The former Benedictine monastery was built in the first half of the ninth century. During the Counter-Reformation, in the years 1696-1726, a powerful baroque monastery was built. Its architect was Johann Jakob Herkomer. In 1909, the city acquired the former monastery building. A town hall was built in the north wing. In the south wing there is today the museum of the city of Füssen.
