The medieval reliquary kept in the main altar of the Cologne Cathedral, according to tradition, lies the remains of the Three Kings, patrons of the city. They were brought from Frederick Barbarossa's expedition to Milan in 1164. The reliquary is made of wood and silver covered with gold metal. It has the shape of a three-nave basilica.
