A 16th-century water tower provided drinking water supplies from the River Spree. It was built in 1558 in place of the wooden predecessor from the 15th century, which was consumed by fire. Currently, the water tower has been opened to the public. At the top of the tower there is a viewing gallery from which you can admire the extensive panorama of Bautzen.
