National Botanical Conservatory of Mascarin

Local name: Conservatoire Botanique National de Mascarin

The Mascarin National Botanical Conservatory in Saint-Leu is a botanical garden with around 4,000 plant species. The garden is divided into 7 parts. They are devoted, inter alia, to the endemic flora of the Mascarene Archipelago, including Madagascar, Mauritius and Réunion, and a historic collection of local agriculture, including coffee, spices, sugar cane and geraniums.

During your visit to the Mascarin National Botanical Conservatory, you can see collections of orchids, succulents, palm trees and bamboos. There is also a fruit orchard with over 50 species of trees. As a curiosity, it is worth mentioning that you can meet endangered and protected butterflies from the endemic species Salamis augustina here.

There is a restaurant in the botanical garden. During the tour, it is also possible to taste the fruit grown on the spot.
