Vannes is a coastal city with preserved medieval fortifications and an old port. Its most important monument is the Romanesque-Gothic cathedral of St. Peter.

The city is situated on the site of a former Celtic settlement. In the past it was a significant port, but now it is mainly of tourist importance and as a local commercial center. The port is located in the bay of Morbihan, sheltered from winds. Its marshy shores are inhabited by water and marsh birds, which can be watched.

The main attraction of Vannes is the Romanesque-Gothic cathedral of St. Peter with elements from later eras. Around it, the oldest part of the city is located, surrounded by defensive walls. There are many historic tenement houses and city palaces here. The classicist Hermine palace with pretty gardens, standing next to the walls, makes a great impression.

One of the modern attractions of Vannes, in addition to the small marina, is the Vannes Aquarium, where you can see fish and other marine animals from all over the world.
