The symbolic mountain with the so-called The Catalan Cross is decorated with the flag of a historic land on the border of France, Spain and Andorra. The mountain is a popular trekking area and a great vantage point. The first ascent to Pic du Canigou (2784 m) was made in 1280 by the king of Aragon, Peter III the Great (1240-1285).
