SÈTE tourist attractions

+6 attractions

Sète is a resort town on the Mediterranean Sea. It is often called the Venice of Languedoc due to its canals and colorful buildings.

The port of Sète was built at the beginning of the 17th century on a narrow spit. Today it is surrounded by the historic city center cut by numerous canals. Bridges over the water, boats swaying on the water remind us of Venice. Sète has more Mediterranean freedom, though, and the colorful canal houses are reminiscent of being in a warm country.

The Saint Clair hill rises above the Sète and offers a beautiful view of the surrounding area. On its top there is also the Chapel of Our Lady of La Salette, where crowds of pilgrims come.

Another attraction of Sète is the seamen's cemetery situated on the rocks, known as the Theater of the Sea. In its vicinity and on other hills around the town, you can also see the preserved fortifications from the 17th and 18th centuries.
