Local name: Fort Lagarde
The oldest part of the fort is La Guardia from 1307 - a watchtower and signal tower, which was preserved during the expansion of the fort in the 17th century. The fortress owes its present appearance to a brilliant military engineer, marshal Sébastien le Prestre de Vauban (1633-1707).
