The Museum of Romantic Life is located near Place Pigalle in the Montmartre district. It is devoted to culture and art of the first half of the nineteenth century. You can see romantic portraits made by Ara Scheffer for the Parisian cream of the time. There are also souvenirs of George Sand and Fryderyk Chopin, including casts of their hands.
The museum is located in the building in which Scheffer's studio was located. He was not only a popular portrait painter, but also an animator of cultural life in Paris. Chopin, Delacroix, Dickens and Turgieniew met in his apartment for cultural evenings. Sheffer was also the author of portraits of Zygmunt Krasiński's wife and mistress.
In the Museum, in the preserved interiors from the beginning of the 19th century, you can see a collection of Scheffer's works. An exhibition devoted to George Sand is located on the lower floor. Her personal items, jewelry, letters and souvenirs are here. At the Museum you can visit a small romantic garden with a tea room hidden among the greenery.
