The Coin Museum is housed in a classical building on the banks of the Seine. His collections contain numismatic items produced from ancient times to the present day. There is both money in circulation and collector's coins spent on important events. At the exhibitions you can also see devices for making coins and their measurements.
The museum was created by the order of King Louis Philippe, Jean-Baptiste Henry Collin de Sussy. It was opened in 1833. His exhibition is divided into three periods: ancient, medieval and modern. Each of them presents coins minted during this period and devices for their production. During the tour, you can learn how the old mints worked, how to prevent counterfeiting and how the coins produced were measured. Engraving shows are also organized.
In addition to the coins that were in circulation at the exhibition, there are also collector's items issued, among others, by the French Mint. You can see a series of coins dedicated to the book "The Little Prince", commemorative coins with the image of Mari Skłodowska Curie, or commemorative coins issued for the subsequent anniversaries of the outbreak of the French Revolution.
