The Bir-Hakeim Bridge is a two-tier crossing of the Seine connecting the 15th and 16th districts of Paris. The lower part is intended for cars and pedestrians, the upper part is covered by the Paris metro. The bridge is a metal structure and several commemorative plaques are mounted in its walls.
The bridge was built in 1903–1905, on the site of an earlier crossing, Passerelle de Passy. It passes through the island of Ile aux Cygnes and is almost 230 meters long. The metal construction of the bridge offers a beautiful view of the Eiffel Tower. The lower part of the crossing is intended for pedestrians. Passers-by are walking here like in a tunnel, and trains of the Paris subway pass over them.
