Place Charles Félix is located in the historic center of Nice called Vieux-Nice. Near the square there are historic, narrow streets with tenement houses, numerous cafes, restaurants and markets including floral Marché aux Fleurs, Cours Saleya, where you can buy fruit, vegetables and local products as well as a flea market. Visitors can also visit, among others The 18th century Chapel of Mercy and the Caïs Pierlas Palace from the 17th century.
The famous French artist Henri Matisse lived on the third floor at the Caïs Pierlas Palace. Earlier, the palace belonged to the Italian families Ribotti and Caïs.
Henri Matisse lived at the turn of the 20th century and is considered the most famous creator of French Fauvism. He was a friend and rival of Pablo Picasso. Matisse's most important works include 'Open Window' and 'Yellow Curtain'.
