Nerac is a charming historic town with a beautifully preserved medieval-renaissance center and castle.
The village is situated on the river Baise, over which there is a stone medieval bridge. In the past, the Lords of Albret had their seat in Nerac, and in the 16th century, King Henry IV lived here with his wife Margot for several years. The Gothic-Renaissance castle of Nerac has been preserved from this period and is now one of the most important attractions. It houses a museum with furniture and furnishings in the residence, and an art gallery.
Nerac's attractions also include the historic center. It is best to visit them on foot, walking along the narrow streets and looking at half-timbered and stone houses. The whole thing has a very compact and uniform character and gives the town a unique atmosphere and charm. Cruises on the Baise River are also a popular form of entertainment, thanks to which you can look at Nerac and its surroundings from a different perspective.
