Pommeraye crossing was built in the first half 19th century and is located between the streets of Santeuil and Rue de la Fosse, whose level difference is over 9 meters. Currently, the building has a shopping center, located on three floors. Visitors, in addition to shopping, can admire the monumental staircase, medallions depicting images of local artists and intellectuals as well as glass roofs and gas lamps, which were once the only sources of lighting.
Allegorical sculptures at the top of the stairs present the advantages of the nineteenth-century Nantes, i.e. land and morka trade, industry, agriculture, entertainment, science and fine arts.
The authors of the design were the architects Jean-Baptiste Buron and Hippolyte Durand-Gasselin. The name of the object comes from the name of the initiator of the entire enterprise, Louise Pommeraye.
