A temple erected in memory of the last great plague (plague epidemic) in France, which broke out in Marseilles in 1720, during which almost half of the city's population died. The construction of the church in the neo-Romanesque-Neo-Byzantine style was completed in 1947. In 1997, Pope John Paul II raised the temples to the rank of a basilica.
