Established in 1774, the square is named after Henri-César de Castellane-Majastre, who handed over the plot for free. In the center of the square is a fountain from 1913 founded by Jules Cantini, a French sculptor and philanthropist. The sculptures are a symbolic representation of the three most important rivers of Provence: Durance, Gardon and Rhône.
