Montrottier Castle is a medieval fortress standing on a hill above the town. It consists of two residential buildings and a separately standing cylindrical tower. Inside, you can see exhibitions of medieval furniture, artistic fabrics as well as crafts and weapons.
The castle was built in the 13th century. He was an important watchtower defending and supervising the intersection of trade routes. After the French Revolution, it began to fall into ruin. It was raised from it thanks to the efforts of the Florimontane Academy, an association that promotes history. It has been open to visitors since 1919.
The castle is built of stone. Especially the highest tower dominates the area, called the Tower of Faith. There is a preserved medieval staircase. Gothic polychromes were reconstructed in the castle rooms. There are also tapestries depicting military scenes. The castle rooms present dishes, weapons, armor, jewelry, clocks, as well as rugs and trinkets.
