LA ROCHELLEFrance
La Rochelle Cathedral
Local name: Cathédrale Saint-Louis de La Rochelle
The eighteenth-century temple was erected on the site of the previous church, which burned down completely on February 9, 1687 - the fire moved from the stack placed on the market square, which was set up to celebrate the healing of Louis XIV. The building design created by the Parisian architect Jacques Gabriel (1667-1742) was never implemented due to lack of funds (e.g. the construction of towers was abandoned).
